Opportunities for co-operation within major innovative transnational project through the Danube-Black Sea Macro-Regional Hub

In the period 1-2 February 2019, in Constanta, it took place the founding reunion of the Danube-Black Sea Macro-Regional Hub, as an initiative of the ”Local Communities along the Danube River” Association (CLDR) in partnership with Cluj IT Cluster. The last one coordinates a group of 30 clusters in the Balcanic area, Black Sea Basin and Baltic Region. The mission of this Hub mainly consists in contributing to the macro-regional innovation through territorial co-operation and developing transnational projects according to the Smart Regional Specialisations and subsequent to the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) and to the other strategic documents.

The participants to the founding reunion of the Danube-Black Sea Macro-Regional Hub were: CLDR Association – member of CoDCR (Vienna), Cluj IT Cluster – composed from four universities and some other business companies in the region, Maritime University in Constanta, University of Craiova, Western University in Timisoara, Spiru Haret University, PrelMet Transilvania Cluster – composed from three universities, two municipalities and numerous SMEs from the Central Romanian Region, National Institute of Research and Development in Mechatronics and Measurement Technique, Archdiocese of Craiova, Ecological Action Romania Foundation, ”24Pharte” Association – Prahova County, URBASOFIA Agency and CIO-SUERD ”Jean Bart” – project founded by EUROLINK-House of Europe Foundation in partnership with the Romanian Academy.

This already function structure is not a closed one. Through an affiliation request, addressed to the Hub Presidency, currently ensured by Cluj IT Cluster, other universities, research centres or motivated entities may join in view of involving within major project consortia.

Within the same context, the thematic areas have been presented and debated in relation with the financing opportunities for the next period. A special focus was addressed to the mixt between various interdisciplinary knowledge and action fields with the transformative digitalisation approach.

Also, on February 1st 2019, CLDR Association deployed the General Assembly reunion. This event provided the activity report in 2018. Meanwhile, a new leadership of the Association was elected. The CLDR Presidency was assumed by the Maritime University in Constanta through its Vice-Rector Gabriel RAICU, and the Executive President was re-elected the Danube Regional Commissioner on behalf od CLDR, Mr. Sever AVRAM
